Hershey Montessori School Virtual Grandparents & Special Friends Day 2021

We miss seeing you in person and look forward to the day when we can invite you back on campus.

Welcome to the 2021 Virtual Celebration!

Grandparents and Special Friends’ Day at Hershey Montessori school is a treasured tradition.  Though we are not able to meet for this special day on campus due to COVID-19, we still want to give a hearty thank you to those who our their time, energy, love, and resources into our students and our school.  Please take a moment to watch a welcome message from Head of School, Paula Leigh-Doyle.

This year, students from all levels gathered grandparent stories which you can read below.

Additionally children in the Young Child Community….

Children’s House children ….

Early and Upper Elementary students created beautiful drawings, poems, and reflections honoring what the guardianship of a Grandparent or Special Friend means to them.

Also, a few of our students tell us what the words Grandparent or Special Friend mean to them. We hope you enjoy their heartfelt video thoughts!

We are extremely grateful to you and all you do to support our community and encourage you to sign up for our Hershey Montessori School Newsletter at the bottom of this page (need to ask Deanna about newsletter sign-up link). Our wish is for you to have a safe and happy spring and to have you join us back on campus as soon as it is safe and possible. We hope you feel the love today and every day!

Activities to Enjoy Together

Conduct an Interview
Speaking of learning more about loved ones, Zoom is the perfect platform for children to interview Grandparents/Special Friends. Let the children ask questions about their grandparents/Special Friends past. Where did they grow up? What were their favorite activities when they were your child’s age? How did they meet? What kind of shenanigans did they get into as children?
Show and Tell

Student picks out a special piece of artwork or current favorite toy and shares it with the grandparents. Grandparent/Special Friend can return the favor, sharing a beloved family heirloom or unique artifact from a recent trip.

Embark on a Scavenger Hunt
Help your children come up with a list of everyday household items and let them shout out those items to their Grandparent/Special Friend. Set a (generous) timer and let Grandparent/Special Friend try to beat the clock by finding each one and bringing it back to the screen to share via the camera. Turn the tables, and let Grandparent/Special Friend shout out a list of items for the kids to collect. Need ideas? Pinterest abounds with lists of scavenger hunt items to cull.
Do a Craft

A simple craft can be lots of fun and another way to learn something new about Grandparent/Special Friend. Maybe Grandma knits and can give some pointers via a video chat, or Grandpa can demonstrate some whittling techniques. Whatever handiwork Grandparent/Special Friend are passionate about, encourage them to pass it on to your children

Make a Simple Recipe Together

Set your Zoom up in the kitchen and let Grandparent/Special Friend teach the kids a simple recipe. Even small children can whip up some no-bake cookies, peel and chop vegetables, or use the microwave to make something like Rice Krispie Treats.
